Get behind Diamond Creek firefighters MND fundraising effort

from CFA Vic website:

Everyone knows climbing long flights of stairs is challenging, and it’s so much tougher when you throw structural turnout gear and breathing apparatus into the mix.

That isn’t deterring Diamond Creek Fire Brigade’s Fiona Macken from taking part in this year’s firefighter stair climb competitions. Fiona is doing both the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb on 3 September and the emergency services division of the Eureka Tower Climb on 13 November. Fiona won the women’s competitions in both these events last year.

Fiona is, however, entering a third stair climb competition this year: The Firefighters Climb for MND. This competition is on 23 October and is raising funds for motor neurone disease research.

This event is even more challenging than the 88 floors of Melbourne’s Eureka Tower – firefighters have to scale the 98 floors of the Sydney Tower Eye in full firefighting kit.

This event is very close to Fiona’s heart, as she’s climbing in memory of her mum, Val, who died of MND last year. Fiona describes MND as “an incredibly cruel disease, one which leaves the sufferer with an average life expectancy of two to five years, no effective treatment and no cure.

PVFM will be supporting Fiona as she prepares for her stair-climb on October 23. Listen in to Luke and Ed on the Drive show, Monday’s 4-6pm for weekly updates from Fiona.

Fiona would be very grateful for any donation you can make. To sponsor Fiona’s stair climb for MND, click here.
